Whenever I go to the supermarket, I always have a habit of grabbing a packet of Lay’s. Mindlessly munching the crunchy potato chips and indulging in its flavors is a delightful moment for me. During my childhood days in the Gulf, I used to love the Salt and Vinegar flavor. However, my favorite among all the delicious flavors is the American Style Cream and Onion. The packet just goes right into my shopping trolley without a second thought. Made from the best quality potatoes and amazing flavors to savor the taste buds, Lay’s makes a good snack enjoyed by all.
Lay’s is a popular brand of chips introduced more than 80 years ago in the United States by H.W. Lay & Company. Interestingly, it is among the first snack products to be advertised through TV commercials. In 1961, the company merged with the Frito Company (maker of popular Fritos Corn Chips) to be called Frito-Lay. Four years later, Pepsi-Cola merged with Frito-Lay to establish PepsiCo, Inc. Today, Lay’s is available in more than 200 flavors, varying from country to country.
The widely popular Lay’s Smile campaign was launched for the first time in 2015 in Thailand. Over the years, it got customized for each of its markets globally. This promoted the brand around the idea of bringing a smile on people’s faces. The new proposition aims to put a smile on the consumer’s face after having the chips. In India, ‘Smile Deke Dekho’ song was launched for commercials, featuring the brand ambassadors Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. The television ads are based on building connections between people and also draw attention to the new packaging. The Lay’s packets now feature different smiles that go best with the flavors.
In July 2020, Lay’s came up with a new digital campaign titled #Heartwork to express their gratitude to the unsung heroes such as retailers, drivers and farmers who work tirelessly against all odds to bring joy to people in our country in these challenging times. Through this social media campaign, Lay’s has engaged with different brands by creating customized heartfelt messages on virtual packs for thanking the unsung heroes associated with the brands. This great initiative of thanking and appreciating heroes has led to building strong connections with them and they have won the hearts of millions of people.
